FileMaker and Xero Intergarion

Written by Jak Kaleniuk

Xero - "Beautiful accounting software" as they themselves put it.

And indeed it is, I personally don't use it for the Jakson accounts but I have a few clients that do and my experience of it has been, well, pretty decent.

But what of FileMaker to Xero integration?  - that dear FileMaker folks is also "beautiful" - but only for a single reason, the good folks at Foundation Data from Aukland, New Zealand and their remarkable plugin "F2X Pro".

I've just implemented FM to Xero fo the second time with this plugin - the first time I would describe as easy - yeah, a few scratchy head moments but a quick chat to the boys at Foundation and all was sorted.  This second time was a pleasure, this plugin does exactly what it says on the tin and does oh-so very well.

I massive thumbs up to Matthew and the whole crew at Foundation for a plug well done.

FileMaker and Sage

Written by Jak Kaleniuk

Creating automated workflows in FileMaker is what we do everyday and it's great to see our client's liberated from tiresome manual data entry.

But time and again we come across the need for that automation to spread it's wings and fly from the confines of the FileMaker nest and head off to other applications within our client's businesses - none more so than the helping integrate FilaMaker sales and invoicing data into an Accounting Software package.

Many of our clients, large and small, use Sage and FileMaker - and getting FileMaker data into Sage is actually a piece of cake.

Now, this cake has different flavours with some of those catering to quite expensive tastes - if you want a full 2-way conversion between FileMaker and Sage then we wholeheartedly recommend - the guys at Synchronite have been developing this product for years and it will fully integrate your systems at the most detailed and finite level. We can provide development using this product to give you the most powerful integration solution, but it's not super cheap.

If however, you simply want to dump a a whole stack of invoicing from FileMaker into Sage, we can do that at a fraction of the cost of full integration, and have it deployed very quickly too. We'll have you importing 1000's of invoices or sales data from FileMaker to Sage with a click of a button in no time at all.

We recently used this approach to save an accounts team from one of our clients literally a week's worth of work EVERY MONTH! Give us a call if you fancy a chat about how we can help you save time on duplicate data entry into Sage.

Joomla! and FileMaker Integration

Written by Jak Kaleniuk

As a fully fledged web development business in addition to our certified FileMaker developer core there's nothing more we like than merging the 2 together.  And that's exactly what we did in a recent project.

As web developers we take advantage of a fantastic array of open source professional grade software for our web projects. Stuff like Wordpress, Joomla! or Drupal to name a just a few.

And it's when we start integrating these great web apps with FileMaker that we can start to provide unbelievable web front end functionality married to the flexible desktop environment that FileMaker providers - AND - at a price unthinkable (as in low!) even just a few years ago

Our latest project of this nature involved a Joomla and FileMaker Integration.

On the front end was a Joomla deployment, styled to look exactly like our client's current web site and installed in to that was an out-of-the-box form system (paid for) Joomla! extension that pumped live data into the local website MySQL database.

We then hooked in FileMaker using it's awesome ESS functionality and in a few hours the 2 independent systems were singing beautifully together.

For me, it's all about harnessing the right technologies. Yes, you could have built the same web app using the FM PHP API - and it wouldn't have been that tricky to do, or you could have built the form from scratch in HTML and PHP and connected in the MySQL database in he same way. But either method would have involved a huge amount of time consuming manual coding for even the most simplest of web-type things - things like field validation or adding captcha code to the submit.

Instead we used existing technologies that allowed us to build a highly functional fully featured form system at a fraction of the price that hard coding would have cost.  Nice.

FileMaker and Joomla is a great combo, highly recommended!
